SiteChar Deliverable 6.1 - Storage sites in the Halten Terrace area
In order to accurately mimic CO2 storage behaviour the modelling approach requires a sound understanding of the geological setting. This applies for models from a basin-wide scale down to a storage site.
Therefore the purpose of this activity was to obtain geological data and to construct geological models for the Trøndelag Platform and the Halten Terrace, offshore Norway. Both seismic data from the area as well as log and core data were utilised to generate such models. The Garn formation has been in both areas identified as a potential storage unit. Data quality and integrity was evaluated, and it was concluded that the quality was good.
For both areas the number of wells is rather restricted. The Trøndelag is unexplored, and for the Halten Terrace the number of available log and core data is rather low due to proprietary issues. In order to account for this also a more stochastic approach will be used to mimic potential permeability and porosity variations within the storage unit.
Ultimately, the obtained models will be used to evaluate the migration behaviour of the injected CO2 and the pressure dissipation related to CO2 injection.
