OGS - Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale

OGS is a research institute financed by the Italian Ministry of University and Research. Its mission is to promote, coordinate and perform, also in collaboration with other national, international, and European institutions, studies and research on the Earth and its resources.

Expertise and capacity

OGS has been member of the following European projects on CCS: CO2-NET2 (a thematic network joining all the stakeholders involved in CCS), Castor (for sensibility analysis and seismic monitoring optimisation), INCA-CO2 (a support action for the EC officers), CO2GeoNet (remote sensing, natural laboratories, near-surface geophysical monitoring, deep imaging, off-shore gas monitoring and biological impacts), Geocapacity (potential CO2 storage evaluation in Italy) , CO2 ReMoVe (advanced geophysical methods, tomography), MOVE-CBM (cross-well monitoring) and RISCS (marine monitoring and impacts evaluations), all dealing with CO2 Geological Storage.  At national level, OGS is the national research institute of reference for CO2 Geological Storage and is contributing, at various level, to the projects started in this field by ENI-Agip (sites evaluation), Enel (off-shore and on-shore storage sites characterisation) and Carbosulcis (CBM and ECBM potentiality evaluation in the Sulcis coal basin). OGS has been also one of the founders of the Italian CO2 Club and manages the Secretariat of this Association.

OGS has been deeply involved in CO2GeoNet, acting as Network Manager, Secretariat Responsible and, now, Secretary General of the CO2GeoNet Association.
